Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Activities for Greek Life will be solely responsible for oversight of our Greek Life system, coordinating all-campus evening and weekend programming, and managing student communications through social and digital media. This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Student Activities. 

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:  

  • Oversee Greek Life system, ensuring campus and chapter policies are enforced and helping the system thrive and grow as an important part of the Queens experience.  
  • Support all Queens Greek chapters (Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, Pi Kappa Phi, and Phi Kappa Sigma). Assist in growth of existing chapters and oversee potential expansion of new Greek chapters including NPHC fraternities and sororities.
  • Serve as advisor to the Inter-Greek Council, Panhellenic Council, Inter-Fraternal Council, and Order of Omega. Communicate with national organizations and local advisors to maintain strong working relationships. 
  • Oversee all-campus evening and weekend programs to ensure consistent student engagement and vibrant campus community and culture.  
  • Oversee student communication strategies, including coordination of campus student e-newsletter, presence on social media outlets, and oversee Student Activities publicity boards and campus calendars. Supervise student media interns as needed to assist with communication strategies.
  • Work in conjunction with Student Activities staff in organizing activities and annual traditions for the campus community.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to bring educational programming to campus that will provide educational or cultural dialogue to the community.  

Non-Essential Duties

  • Special projects and other duties may be assigned as needed.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Two to five years of professional experience in Student Affairs or a related field.  
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent in experience and education; Master’s Degree preferred in higher education, counseling, student personnel, or a related field.
  • Experience with collegiate level Greek Life programs.
  • Demonstrated track record of actively promoting diversity and inclusion of all students.
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office preferred, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Flexibility to regularly work evenings and weekends to achieve objectives of the position; ability and willingness to travel on behalf of the university, including trips requiring overnight stays (<25% of time).

  • Lifting, Pulling, Pushing: Exert up to 50 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Additional Information

Work Conditions

  • Work in office environment, involving contact with faculty, staff, students, parents, service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions and may be stressful at times. 
  • Work may require occasional and overnight travel.
