Summary: This Admissions position participates in all phases of the student recruitment process for Queens’ traditional undergraduate population.  This is a temporary, non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Admissions through 11/25/14.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 

    • Effectively communicate Queens’ mission to prospective students, high school counselors, and alumni
    • Extensive travel representing Queens in assigned geographic regions at high schools and college fairs
    • Plan and implement on-campus and off-campus admissions programs
    • Counsel transfer students, entering freshmen and international students through the admissions process
    • Serve as COD (Counselor of the Day) as assigned
    • Conduct on-campus interviews with prospective students and their parents
    • Follow up in a timely manner on inquiry files through phone calls and other appropriate correspondence
    • Identify students through the recruitment process that will meet Queens’ admission criteria
    • Work closely with the Office of Student Financial Services to provide students with accurate information and counseling concerning all aspects of the financial aid process

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required

    • Prior Admissions Counselor experience desired, particularly in a similar setting (e.g., small, comprehensive/liberal arts private university or college)
    • Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills, proven ability to connect with prospective students, parents and school administrators to convey the Queens story and educational opportunities
    • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout assigned geographical region; availability to work evenings and weekends as needed to accomplish recruiting objectives
    • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills, including proven expertise in follow-up and follow-through to completion within established time frames
    • A high level of personal integrity and professionalism
    • Familiarity with online and PC-based technology, including the internet and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to problem solve and research issues as needed

  • Ability to quickly learn and assimilate new systems and information

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new knowledge and skills

  • Proven ability to identify, define, analyze, and resolve problems

  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information; familiarity with FERPA desired

    • Knowledge of undergraduate financial aid desired
    • Must possess a valid United States driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles from state of residence, and no serious driving infractions in the past 2 years
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Lifting, Pulling, Pushing: Exert up to 50 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects – 75-100% of the time.

Work Conditions

  • Work in office environment, involving contact with faculty, staff, students, parents, service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions, high volume and may be stressful at times.
