Job Description

Refinery29 is looking for a talented writer for our growing news & politics vertical. We're covering the issues that matter to the lives of our readers — millions of smart, plugged in millenials — from reproductive rights to foreign policy. Our ideal candidate is obsessed with the news cycle, able to find stories as they’re breaking, and can write cogently and quickly while also excelling at thinking of new angles and fresh takes. 

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years experience writing about news and politics for the web or print. 
  • Great writing skills and the ability to put them to use quickly and cleanly. 
  • News judgement: Find under-the-radar stories that the R29 reader will love.
  • Audience understanding: knowledge and experience with the R29 readership of millennials and their news interests.
  • Fresh takes: Look for new spins and points of entry for front-page stories that will make us stand out.
  • Reporting skills: willingness to pick up the phone or DM sources for quotes.
  • Pitching: be another set of eyes on the news, and bring story ideas every day.
  • Editing: ability to line edit and punch up copy.
  • Experience with with video and other types of storytelling is a plus.
