Job Description

The Head of User Experience will lead and inspire a small team of Experience designers(UX) to create and execute the design for Blablacar's product.

Responsibilities will include organizing, growing and mentoring a team of six and ensuring that work is timely, impactful and relevant to our needs. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the UX discipline, strong instincts for design and content development, a creative approach to usability studies and feedback, as well as an entrepreneurial and confident attitude.

Our product has some unique and exciting design challenges:

  • Blablacar is a complex, very fast growing, global C2C market place, used by millions across three continents,
  • Our users expect simple, efficient experience, but at the same time, bold, inspiring visual design,
  • Design challenges include: implementing new features, improving existing ones and enhancing the look and cohesiveness of the entire experience.

In particular, you will have to :

  • Create intuitive and elegant UX solutions to the problems raised by our users and our business teams,
  • Build new interfaces for the web and mobile, from the wireframe all the way to the final design,
  • Prepare and perform usability tests with users to gather direct feedback,
  • Always challenge existing interfaces to establish Blablacar as an inspiring, state of the art, world class product.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a UX roadmap to guide designers, product management and tech teams in planning for and implementing the vision,
  • Attract, inspire, and manage a UX team of experience designers. This requires setting clear goals, managing the project load and allocating people accordingly, ensuring deadlines are met, and setting up team members for overall success,
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data and research results into actionable recommendations that inform design and content strategies,
  • Passionately advocate for the user to ensure that the product design strategy is aligned to user needs and expectations.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years conducting user experience design and research in an international, high-tech, consumer oriented environment, including 3+ years managing a team of designers,
  • Detail oriented, with strong organization and process skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under time constraints,
  • Extremely strong communication skills and demonstrated success presenting in a clear and compelling manner to cross-functional stakeholders,
  • Ability to coordinate the work of 6+ experience designers on the same product,
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to quickly build rapport and establish credibility, thrives in collaborative work,
  • Passion for practical application of research findings,
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills,
  • Strong design portfolio (with examples of work on web and mobile apps).
