Company Description

Who Are We?

Closed Loop is a User Experience Optimization agency. We make online interfaces easier to use, more effective, and more profitable. We’re very good at it. Since 2001 we've been trusted consultants to some of the world's largest and most innovative companies including PayPal, Tableau Software, 3M, Allstate, Crate & Barrel, and more.

One of the reasons we’re successful is we work hard to find just the right team members, and then we work just as hard to keep them. Our team includes a unique mix of individuals: passionate, talented, and often unconventional people who…

  •   love challenges
  •   have extremely high standards
  •   are able to multi-task while making it look easy
  •   can grasp the big picture, but with an eye for detail
  •   are adept at wearing multiple hats
  •   are driven to create real results for clients
Closed Loop is also honored to have been named one of Sacramento's Best Places to Work in 2013 by the Sacramento Business Journal.

Job Description

Closed Loop is looking for a Project Manager to join our Client Strategy team. This position requires outstanding project management expertise, superior attention to detail, a fanatical (but healthy) love of organization, and masterful communication skills (both online and off). This is a full-time position at our Roseville, CA location. No telecommuting.

Important note: below are lists of “what you’ll do” and “what this position requires” – important aspects of any job posting. What you’ll also see is a category that’s not often in job postings: the “type” of person we’re looking for. Closed Loop’s success is as much about our skills and experience as it is about our people.

An insider’s tip: write a cover letter that specifically addresses the bullet points below. The type of person we’re looking for is the type of person who’d do that.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the management of client projects (as assigned by the VP of Client Strategy)
  • Actively contribute to the successful execution of complex client projects
  • Help manage overall client communication, project organization, timelines, etc.
  • Anticipate project needs and solve for them proactively, e.g. “see around corners”
  • Actively participate in - and frequently lead - client conference calls and presentations
  • Collaborate directly with Closed Loop’s UX team to ensure creation and delivery of effective designs
  • Identify and suggest ways to improve efficiencies, e.g. help us “work smarter”

To be considered successful in this role, within six months you will find yourself driving all aspects of a significant number of projects for a key Closed Loop client to the same level of quality they have come to expect, while only needing some oversight and support from your grateful (and offloaded) VP of Client Strategy. You will be able to articulate all key facets of our client’s web experience and internal processes. You will have established and successfully maintained close professional relationships with all key clients contact and internal colleagues, while also having gained their trust and established your credibility. And, you’ll love your job.

Qualifications

Strong candidates must have expertise in these areas:

  • 3+ years web project management experience (agency experience a plus)
  • Proven track record in providing excellent client service and building lasting client relationships
  • Superior attention to detail and amazing organizational skills
  • Masterful communication skills (both online and off)
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, open team environment (e.g. lots of impromptu brainstorming, frequent co-ownership on project deliverables)
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a discipline emphasizing communication skills, business savvy and/or organizational know-how

Experience with the following would sweeten the deal:

  • UX or user research
  • Collaborating directly with designers and/or developers
  • HTML basics or other web technologies
  • Web analytics
  • Conversion optimization
  • High tech companies - startups, Internet/software companies
  • Agile development

At the end of the day, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Lives and breathes organization and communication
  • Isn’t shy about interacting with a wide variety of people – both on calls and in person
  • Has a professional and genuinely sincere email style
  • Can adjust “on the fly” and adapt based on new information
  • Understands the importance of context
  • Appreciates the smallest details, but keeps an eye on the bigger picture
  • Knows how to translate complex ideas to the uninitiated
  • Is motivated by a desire to help
  • Knows when to talk – and when to listen
  • Understands the importance of a service-oriented approach in an agency
  • Pays great attention to detail but doesn’t fixate on perfection
  • Is comfortable with frequent inputs from team members and clients on all projects
  • Is calm and cool when things are crazy, but can handle slower times as well
  • Thinks constantly about ways to make things better, more effective, more efficient
  • Is comfortable in both introverted and extroverted environments
  • Is excited when managing multiple projects with varied deliverables and timelines
  • Doesn’t stop when the “list of things to do” is complete – thinks about what’s NOT on the list that should be
  • Is interested in the online space
  • Has an intense desire to deliver above and beyond expectations
  • Has a deep sense of integrity, responsibility and accountability
  • Inspires others to do great work

If you just said: “Wow. That’s me,” then we really, really want to talk to you.
