Job Description

We’re looking for a Director of Communication with a successful track record of planning, developing, and executing top-notch PR initiatives that impact brand awareness and industry credibility. You must be a creative thinker, a tireless networker, and have a methodical approach to achieving constant results, all while stretching our marketing budget.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Serving as Refinery29's in-house spokesperson
  • Building and managing strong relationships with press contacts, brands, and other outside talent/collaborators
  • Crafting press releases swiftly for external and internal communication
  • Conducting press outreach for events, promotions, and other company initiatives
  • Providing communication counsel to R29 team; defining talking points for media communication; arranging media training when necessary
  • Working with internal teams to develop ongoing communication strategies to positively position R29
  • Responding to media inquiries with immediacy
  • Organizing press events for R29
  • Leading crisis communication, as necessary
  • Developing and managing our press contact/media list 

Qualifications

  • Have at least 7 years of public relations experience at a fast-paced, growing digital company
  • Have a successful track record of growing brand awareness
  • Have a strong stable of contacts within the media industry
  • Be a strategic thinker with the ability to execute creative and original ideas (no shot-gun approach)
  • Have exceptional written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Have the ability to identify media opportunities
  • Have a sense of urgency and be able to meet deadlines
  • Have experience working with large groups of bloggers and grass roots programs
  • Have a 4-year degree in communications, PR or related field
